Our Site Exploration Committee worked diligently for several years to find the best possible place to build Maayanot. The Committee included volunteer community members from across the Twin Cities who work in the fields of real estate development, architecture, and design. They sought a location on a Jewish campus and explored options in a wide range of geographic areas.
In deciding where to build this pluralistic community mikveh, the Committee carefully considered the following requirements:- Structurally appropriate for a mikveh pool and collection of natural water according to the specifications of a kosher mikveh
- Accessible to people of all abilities
- Financially feasible
- Easy to reach from a variety of locations
- A modest presence with a private entrance
After an exhaustive search the Site Exploration Committee and our Board of Directors selected the space on Beth El’s campus. It meets all of the requirements, and importantly, Beth El’s leadership strongly supports Maayanot’s vision for a community mikveh. At this location, Maayanot will have a mikveh pool accessible to people with disabilities, shower rooms, a beit din room (for clergy conversations with conversion candidates before their mikveh immersion), a waiting area, and a small office. No. Maayanot will remain an independent, nonprofit organization serving the entire Jewish community of Minnesota and nearby states. After several years of work using clear and thoughtful selection criteria, Maayanot’s Site Exploration Committee felt the Beth El site is best suited to serve the Minnesota Jewish community and beyond.

Maayanot will soon launch its capital campaign with a goal of approximately $3.5 million to construct the mikveh and provide one year of operating funds as well as a reserve fund.

A combination of immersion fees, Jewish organizational support, grants, donations from individuals and families, and an annual fundraiser will fund ongoing operations.

While Maayanot is pleased to be able to operate temporarily at the St. Paul Mikvah, there are insurmountable limitations at this location that fall short of Maayanot’s full vision. Building a new mikveh will allow Maayanot to: • Have a disability-accessible building and pool. • Accept individual appointments to mark a wide array of life moments, both celebratory and healing. • Educate and support a group of volunteer mikveh guides to facilitate immersions. • Provide ample space for celebrations, educational classes, and programs. • Offer a library and display artwork reflecting diversity and progressive Jewish values. • Operate with expanded hours.
